A group of journalists, led by Alejandro Pueblas, suffered an attack by friends and family of the deceased criminals. These individuals managed to break through the security cordon established by the Buenos Aires Police. The situation escalated when the relatives of the deceased charged at the reporters, hitting the equipment and attempting to damage the cameras while the forensic investigations were taking place.
Pueblas and his team managed to take refuge in a neighbor's house, who provided them asylum while the attackers controlled the scene, amid police passivity. "They came to kill us," denounced Pueblas, emphasizing that one of the assailants was armed. This incident adds to a previous attack on an A24 team, where another journalistic group was violently assaulted while covering the confrontation in which a police officer killed two criminals in Lomas del Mirador, La Matanza.
Despite suffering minor injuries, the team was able to leave the scene unharmed, although the tension and aggression could have had fatal consequences. Both the police and the prosecutor in the case apologized for what happened. The images captured by A24 allowed for the identification of some of the assailants, who are believed to be relatives of the criminals killed by the police.
"If it weren't for the family that took us in, we would be dead," Pueblas added, highlighting the importance of the help received during the dangerous situation.
